Tom Buzzell NAMED NTS INNOVATIONS COO
East Peoria, IL - February 8, 2021 – NTS Innovations, a science to commercialization company specializing in nanotechnology, has named Thomas (Tom) Buzzell as its Chief Operating Officer. In this role, Tom will provide leadership and strategic vision to the organization, oversee operational, managerial, and administrative procedures, and ensure day-to-day operational excellence. Additionally, Tom will help form strategic partnerships and drive key business growth as the company develops its first generation Graphene Energy Harvesting (GEH) chips.
Tom recently retired from Caterpillar Inc., after a 32-year career, 20 of which were in executive leadership positions.
Tom served as the regional CIO for both the Asia-Pacific and Americas regions, where he was responsible for end-to-end IT strategies, operations, and business plans. Tom was the executive leader for a strategic application transformation for the business units in these regions that reduced operational costs, increased efficiencies, and enabled regional shared services.
As the Enterprise Application CIO, Tom had broad responsibility for a portfolio of over 1,000 corporate applications globally. Leveraging his regional experiences, he was an executive sponsor for an enterprise-wide transformation based on the SAP suite of applications.
In his most recent role, Tom was the Global Operations CIO and led the organization through major infrastructure and cloud transformations supporting enterprise digital strategies. Additionally, he had responsibility for the IT Vendor Management Office, including key strategic supplier relationships and major contract negotiations.
Throughout Tom’s career, he worked across the Caterpillar organization globally, including an assignment in Singapore. He has managed numerous large-scale programs and business plans. His strategies and execution helped Caterpillar manage through challenging business conditions over the past decade and positioned the company for success going forward.
Tom has an MBA in International Business from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois, and a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a Computer Science minor from the University of Iowa.
Tom is also committed to charitable endeavors, including sponsorship of health and education in Uganda, Haiti, and Honduras through partner organizations. Tom and his wife participate in mission trips to these developing countries annually.
As a board member and business advisor for NTS Innovations for the last four years, Tom has developed a deep understanding of the company and passion for the world changing technology they are creating.
Tom joins Preston Carter, Chief Technology Officer, and Donald Meyer, CEO, to round out the executive leadership team of NTS Innovations, as the company prepares for an exciting year ahead.
